Brad Simpson was born in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Davidson College in 1983. After 4 years of service in the U.S. Army as a Quartermaster, he enrolled in Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia, graduating in 1991. Before joining us as Pastor in 2019, Brad served as Pastor of Grove and Smith Presbyterian Churches in eastern N.C., as Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Concord, N.C., and as Pastor of Wytheville Presbyterian Church. He enjoys hiking, traveling, playing in the community orchestra (tuba), and trying to improve his golf game! He is also involved in the Boy Scout program on the pack, troop, and district level.

David Almond joined our staff in 1999 as organist. He now serves as our Music Director, Organist and Audio Visual Specialist. He received a degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1975 in Piano Performance. He has said “I love being here at First Presbyterian Church where we can do a wide range of music from the contemporary to the classical.” David resides in Sanford with his wife Carolyn and loves fishing and spending time with three amazing grandchildren.

Karen Barnes began her journey at First Presbyterian Child Development Center in 2002 and has 22 years of child care experience. She has a variety of duties at the center, most importantly, ensuring the safety and well being of every child that attends. Karen enjoys being able to see first friendships form between the children and watching them grow from infants into young ladies and gentlemen. She loves working with such amazing teachers, staff, and a wonderful Assistant Director. She feels blessed to be part of the FPCDC family.
